Microsoft Power BI / Developer

Westmoreland Coal Company is seeking a Microsoft Power BI UX/UI specialist and developer to join our Business Intelligence Team. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging with end-users to discern their data consumption needs (e.g., decision-support, intuitive discernment and navigation, decision-making style, data needs), working in smaller Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing Environments utilizing Microsoft SQL Server and its’ business suite of products. We are looking to this person to be able to participate in our Agile Scrum process using VSTS while performing tasks related to software development (e.g., design documents, implementation plans, code reviews, and QA)

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge and skill set:

  • User experience design and user interface standards development
  • Microsoft Business Intelligence stack
  • Power BI Applications Development - Ability to design/develop Power BI Dashboards (2+ years)
  • Requirements gathering, aggregation and discerning what the end-user is really after
  • SharePoint Business Intelligence
  • SQL Server Data Modeling
  • SQL Server SSIS Management; e.g., ETL data from various sources (JDE, XLS, Microsoft cloud hosted solutions, Custom applications, etc.) into SQL Databases
  • SSRS Development
  • .NET programming in VB and C# preferred
  • Implement tabular models using SSAS to facilitate exposure of data to Reporting/Dashboarding solutions (Excel/SSRS/Power BI/etc.)
  • Use Team Foundation Server to manage configuration/source control for development efforts
  • Fundamental understanding of data warehousing, metadata management
  • Ability to communicate and document work progress (5+ years business intelligence/data warehousing experience, TFS or VSTS experience preferred)
  • Ability to document requirements, diagram data models and ETL roadmaps (5+ years business intelligence/data warehousing experience, ER/Studio Data Architect, Visio or other data modeling/visualization tool experience a plus)
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience

A Project Management Methodology: PMI, Prince II

Ability to provide technical assistance to the team as able (able to wear multiple hats). Examples of this could include dashboard/report development, ETL development and/or database development activities.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience/knowledge

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager or BI Lead

Expert level understanding of databases, data warehouses and business intelligence

Microsoft Project expertise

Experience with the following is a plus:

Microsoft Power BI and DAX scripting

Business Objects Suite of tools (Information/Universe Design, Data Services (ETL), Web Intelligence)

Microsoft SQL (SQL, database development, replication and analysis services)

JD Edwards 9.2

Experience with Microsoft Office products including Visio

PMI’s ACP/PMP or equivalent certifications desired, but not necessary
