Summary Description:                                                                    

Performs tasks to establish and maintain accurate employee and payroll records for multiple companies/sites, in multiple states. Performs a wide variety of payroll processing activities to ensure correct paychecks for each employee. Produces timely and accurate payroll, month end and year end reports; including W2's.  Assists employees and/or managers with questions about payroll policies and pay discrepancies.  Site personnel ranges from 50 - 350 employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:             

  • Verify and/or input payroll related information into automated payroll systems.
  • Maintain payroll operations and ensure SOX compliance by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Process timely and accurate paychecks for each employee.
  • Responsible for gathering payroll information for special reports, accounting, audit, unions, etc.
  • Responsible for calculating/processing special pay, special deductions and other payroll requests.
  • Remain updated on payroll and tax changes.
  • May act as a "lead" or first-level supervisor.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • 4 to 6 years of payroll experience and experience in general accounting
  • Performs work under minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of payroll, computerized application and systems; JD Edwards, ADP and/or Kronos preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office, spreadsheets and database applications software preferred
